Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessments - Understanding Your Child's Unique Needs
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that can impact a child's ability to engage and interact with the world around them. The spectrum encompasses a wide range of abilities and severity levels, meaning each child with ASD may experience different challenges and strengths. A comprehensive ASD assessment by a skilled professional is crucial in understanding your child's unique profile, accessing appropriate support, and developing targeted intervention strategies.
At Sydney Kids Neuropsychology, both Alicia and Stephanie are highly qualified and experienced in conducting Autism Spectrum Disorder assessments. They adhere to the gold standard diagnostic methods, ensuring an accurate and thorough evaluation of your child's developmental and behavioural needs. Our approach includes the following components:
- Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2): This structured assessment involves direct observation of your child's behaviours and interactions to assess signs of ASD.
- Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R): A detailed interview with parents or caregivers that gathers important information about your child's developmental history and behavioural patterns.
- Teacher or Relevant Professional Interview: We gather insights from your child's classroom teacher or other relevant individuals to understand how they function in an educational setting.
- School Observation (when required): Direct observation in the school environment to assess how your child interacts and learns in a typical academic setting.
Referral Information for ASD Assessments
For people aged 25 years and under, a referral from a GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist entitles families to eight sessions of Medicare rebated assessment. This ensures that families can access financial support for the cost of ASD assessments.
If you're concerned about your child's development or suspect that they may be on the autism spectrum, early assessment can be a key step toward providing the right interventions and support.
